Overrunning devices are designed to limit direction. Torque can be transmitted in only one direction (designated 'left' and 'right' hand rotation). Applications include implements that experience high centrifical loads such as spinning flywheels, fans, etc. Shutdown allows these masses to freely come to their own inerial stop.
The shear bolt device will 'break' at a given torque load determined by the bolt diameter and location. The broken bolt must then be replaced to continue operation.

Old Style

 

FF series friction clutches come in 4 varieties consisting of 2 or 4 discs using 2 different diameter discs and various size coil springs. They are adjustable and have been a proven torque limiter for many years.
